Best Practices & Strategies
The Durango Chapter of the Colorado Restaurant Association, Durango and Ignacio Chamber of Commerce, Local First, and Durango Business Improvement District BID) are all working with restaurants, retail and service businesses all over La Plata County on strategies to meet the requirements to open their businesses, in a safe manner. We are working to compile a list of best practices. Please reach out to any of these organizations to help answer your specific questions.
Revitalizing Main Streets + Bump Outs!
The Creative District and BID have been helping beautifying spaces on Main Ave for businesses to have customers sit outside safely and responsibly. The Colorado Department of Transportation is offering $4 million in grants to promote healthy and economic activity. Check it out HERE.
Sidewalk Sales
For businesses located in Downtown Durango, the BID is leading an effort to extend businesses space to sell goods or provide meals to customers to the sidewalks and into Main Ave. A plan will be presented in mid to late May to the City and to San Juan Basin Public Health, with the hope of implementing the new plan on or around June 1. Contact Tim Walsworth, Executive Director for BID, at timw@downtowndurango.org to learn more.
Parking Space Use
Check out Summertime Parking in Durango!
The City of Durango has recently allowed businesses with parking lots to use up to 25% of their required parking spaces to conduct its business. This is used primarily for retail now, but when restaurants can open this will be helpful to those businesses as well. Learn More HERE.
